About Judith Swift
I qualified as a state registered Chiropodist/Podiatrist in 1987 after completing a
three year full time course at the Northern College of Chiropody (now part of University
After qualifying I went straight into full time work and have since gained over 25 years
experience in private practice and NHS Podiatry.
My qualifications include a Bachelor of Science (BSc in Podiatric Medicine)
Certificate in Local Anaethetics and Certificate in Health Promotion.
I am also a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists
From 1987 I have worked in the NHS in the Fylde area providing a variety of treatments to patients including routine chiropody , nail surgery, diabetic and rheumatoid foot care, wound care (treatment of foot ulcerations), vascular assessment (a Doppler is used to assess circulation to the legs) and providing biomechanical assessments resulting in the perscription of orthotics.
My main interest within the NHS was diabetes. I worked with Diabetic Consultants at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. My Health promotion work has involved developing and delivering group diabetic foot education sessions in the Blackpool and Fylde area. I was also involved in clinical education of fellow Podiatrist and other professionals. including being a Clinical Educator for Huddersfield University Podiatry students.
In February 2011 after 23 years of working for the NHS I left to devote my time to setting up my private practice in the Milnthorpe, Kendal, Carnforth areas and to work as an associate for private practices in Morecambe and Cleveleys.
It can be difficult to decide which Podiatrist/Chiropodist to choose. However it is essential that you first check whether the professional treating your feet is genuine and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. You can check on line at
Hobbies and interests
On a more personnal note I moved form the Fylde area to
Silverdale nearly ten years ago. In my spare time I enjoy
voluntary work at Leighton Moss RSPB bird reserve,
climbing, gardening and painting.
Manual dexterity and good eye sight are essential to both my Podiatry
work and artwork! If you would like to view more of my art work I exhibit
each year on the Silverdale and Arnside Art trail.
My paintings can be also be viewed at
I hope hear from you soon.
